Veterans Day was once celebrated as Armistice Day, symbolizing a truce or agreement made by opposing sides in a war to cease fighting. This day was founded on November 11, 1919, marking one year after the end of WWI. Armistice Day officially became a federal holiday in 1938. It was later amended in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to include all veterans.
